ONE

(This is the only time you will NOT bring your dog with you.)

Orientation - registration, Guide to Dog Training brochure, Group Class Information sheet, coupons, equipment and safety review, command overview, overview of training techniques, overview of other available dog products, behavior problems, store tour.

Get your dog used to wearing his training collar and being on a leash.  You can do this by placing it on him for 10 minutes a day and walking (not necessarily heeling) around the house or back yard with him.  Make sure that this is a positive experience for him.

TWO

(Remember to ALWAYS wear the correct shoes & clothes, bring treats and/or toy, have proper equipment, & water.)

Equipment and vaccination check.

Commands:  introduce watch, sit, heel, auto-sit, release.

Handouts for behavior problems.

Work on commands covered in class.  Keep your training sessions short (10 - 15 minutes) and pleasant.  Train every day.  If your dog enjoys training you may be able to work in more than one training session per day.  REWARD ONLY CORRECT BEHAVIOR.  BE CONSISTENT!!!

THREE

Practice:  heeling using more complicated heeling patterns which include left and right turns and auto-sits.  Fine tune frontal sit.

Commands:  introduce stay.

Handouts for behavior problems.

Practice commands learned so far.  Work on new topics covered in class.  Develop your own heeling patterns.  Continue to train everyday.  Be careful to not over-train.  Keep training happy.

FOUR

(Bring your long line.)

Practice:  heeling patterns, sit-stay

Commands:  introduce timed stay, recall, down, long line.

Handouts for behavior problems.

Refer to last weeks homework.  Try a more complicated heeling pattern. REWARD ONLY CORRECT BEHAVIOR.  BE CONSISTENT!!!

FIVE

(Bring your long line.)

Practice:  heeling, auto-sit, sit-stay, frontal sit, down, recall on long line.

New stuff:  introduce 6-ft. leash recall, down-stay.

Handouts for behavior problems.

Practice everything learned.  Have someone help you with the long line recalls.  To help avoid over-training, alternate different topics on different days or for different training sessions.

GRADUATION!

Review all commands learned. Discuss advanced programs.  Turn in trainer evaluation forms and letters of recommendation.  Receive diploma.

Continue your training.  Remember that it takes a dog 6 WEEKS to learn a new skill.  The more you practice the more you and your dog will become a team.  GOOD LUCK!
